How to restore w10privacy settings9/23/2023 ![]() ![]() I didn't, decided a few days after that I wanted to change the 5 letter name of my folder to a longer name, so I had to do quite a lot of registry key & value replacement. So you have to plan this by using Rufus and creating a special image of the Windows 11 setup to be able to do that. ![]() If you're an.l like I am about profile folder names, do know that Windows 11 won't let you create a local account during install, it will force you to use a Microsoft account. Fortunately, the app divides all of these options into groups labeled with tabs. There are literally more than one hundred different tracking and telemetry options for you to select. ![]() TLDR: a week into Windows 11, I can neither recommend nor discourage an update to Windows 11. W10Privacy W10Privacy is a robust tool designed to give you extensive control over which telemetries you want to enable and disable. In my opinion, it's a shame Microsoft abandoned the live tiles for widgets. I never use the start menu but it sure doesn't look like an improvement to me. I couldn't care less about the UI changes, but others may find the aesthetic has improved. The only improvement I've found vs Windows 10 is that when waking up from blank screens, the windows appear back as they were on both my monitors, whereas under Windows 10 all apps would reappear on the main monitor.Īlso, it seems to manage the fans decently, I haven't felt the need to install the Asus utilities so far. I've had no issue with my none v14 Waves plugins. I've removed the (wasted) space between the elements, which could be useful on a touch computer but neither of my desktop monitors are touch enabled. I've changed back some of its annoying behavior to W10 behavior, such as a real right-click menu in Windows Explorer. I've removed most of the Windows 11 fat ("decrappified" it). So far, I haven't measured anything, but I'd say there is neither discernible improvement nor deterioration of DAW performance. I can still use my FireWire Tascam mixer with W95 driver: Windows 11 complains it can't activate the memory integrity protection, but at least it lets me do what I want. The good news is, everything I've thrown at it so far works as it was under Windows 10. I've finally bit the bullet and installed Windows 11 to test it. ![]()
